Well it looks like we all survived the Mayan Apocalypse. Which unfortunately means we all have to go back to work after the holidays... and we still have to pay our bills :-( . Oh c'mon, admit it! You know you thought about how nice it would be to not have to pay bills anymore! :-D
On behalf of the entire team here at the Phoenix Firestorm Project, we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah or whatever celebrations you partake in this time of year. Happy holidays and we wish you all a fantastic New Year!
We survived 2012! See ya next year! \o/
Sincerely,
Jessica Lyon and the Team.
Happy Holidays to you too! Just don't jinx us about surviving 2012 when its only the 22nd :P

ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and a good 2013
A Merry Christmas to the whole Phoenix team and a great New Year.
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas to the entire Phoenix Firestorm team, including the support members who are always available inworld to assist with queries.
ReplyDeleteBut more than wishing you all the best this season, thank you for the hard work, time and dedication that you have each given in order to provide us with excellent viewers over the years, and especially with the development of Firestorm to the supreme viewer it is now. Without you, Second Life would not be the same. Shayne xx
Merry Christmas to all - a bit late I might add -and to a better 2013. While I am here though, a wish for future presents: I would give my teeth for a couple things in a viewer. Here's a fast wish list: Multi screen capability - to be able to drag a inventory console or an edit or build or any box for that matter to another screen would be a dream come true.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing- and this would help the client side as well. Bring us an anti-duplicator for inventory. This would mathematically reduce objects and load times grid wide for everyone - this would be huge huge huge. And while I am not trying to drag from previous posts or cross thread here, the two biggest things I miss in FS from PX - PX video had a crisp sharpness to it running at default video card settings that Firestorm just don't have and that also includes the buttons and print. I am running FS in its default mode, not px mode and I really miss the high contrast fire orange buttons and text contrast. But that's nit-picking. The multi screen features and the anti duplicator would be monsters and would put a whole new spin on things for a lot of us. With what I do in SL, I never get to see much of my screen cause it's buried in boxes. We builders and club/store owners have enough going on we rarely get to see whats actually going on in a room.
Anyway, there's some thoughts for 2013. Thanks for all you do and a safe and happy holiday for all.
An afterthought-- I do realize that an anti duplicator would require users to learn about things like checksums and uuid numbers, and I do understand your would need a big warning and an undo button to keep people from inventory suicide and probably classes as well, but the benefits would be huge. Heres's a fast example so those of you that never worked with an anti-duplicator before can understand.
DeleteA lady friend of mine loves clothing and shops til she's broke. It's nothing for her to go and buy 100 outfits. So lets do some math. Let's say each outfit has 4 pieces. There's 400 inventory objects. Now let's say each one comes in a box with a load script, there's 100 empty boxes and 100 dead load scripts. Now lets add a landmark and a generic read me from the store. There's 200 more objects. So this shopping spree for 100 outfits just turned into 1000 inventory items, only 402 of which you actually will need or use. So a set of inventory management tools would be a huge saver, and most of all, this would reduce server loading and lag and server storage space as well by eliminating useless files in the form of dead boxes, dead scripts and multiple landmarks and read me's to the same place.
Doing this by hand takes hours for some that have let their inventory get out of control. With the right built in tools this could be reduced to minutes and would benefit everyone on the grid by reducing server load.
Also, a broken link remover would be good too. So many people I talk to and know have thousands of inventory items. Tools like these would benefit everyone and get people organized in a few minutes--not hours. You build it, and I'll volunteer to teach the classes. :)
DeleteI’ve posted FIRE-806 on the JIRA on March 31, 2011 which addresses the broken link stuff among other inventory/outfit folder things.
DeleteJohn, maybe you would like to vote for it.
