The day has finally come!
The Phoenix Viewer 1.5.2.725 is a Release Candidate because we want to be absolutely certain everything is how it should be. We are also aware that there are still a few bugs which need to be worked out and a few more things we want to add to it before we make it a final release. Although we are calling this a release candidate we WILL be providing full support for it and it can be treated as an Official Release.

Important!
We have loads of documentation and feel it is very important that our users read it because there has been a lot of changes made that might confuse you if you're not aware of them when you first log in. For this reason, we also ask that you link your friends to this blog page rather than the direct download link. You would be doing them injustice otherwise. Download links are at the bottom of this post, we will be adding the download links to our main downloads page in a few days.

Among many other things in this release, we have Parcel Based Windlight settings, Altitude based Windlight settings (sky boxes), Display name support, Multi attachment system, Inventory links... and much much more... so much more.

  2. Lacking the ability to "Add" things like clothing and tattoos. Only prims so far.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Just wondering,.. will phoenix be adding the media on a prim feature in the future?

So far loving the new viewer, great work, keep it up :)

  4. I'm great fan of Phoenix a big kiss ♥

    ReplyDelete
  5. too bad it doesnt have the multiple tattoo/clothing layer option.
But this update is good, i like it :)

  6. Now that I have inventory links, can I have a pane in the Inventory window that is JUST the contents of My Outfits?

    I know, I'm pushy :D

    ReplyDelete
  7. What do you try to say when you say "add: Media Player". I did not see nothing new. The most important: SLPlugin.v2.0 has support to change the volume settings of the media (including all flash objects hosted on the page). For me, this is the most important improvement that you can add to the viewer.

  8. NICE! Works just as the doctor ordered only better. Love the new features in windlight parcel and the advanced Name features. Way to go Phoenix.

    Stands up and claps hands!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Only problem is that main chat and IM windows show user name and not display names. I suppose that will be fixed in the next release

    ReplyDelete
  11. When you say "unable to run", what happens when you try?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Just curious if this version is Large Address Aware (LAA) combined into one installer or because it's a an RC that you aren't doing the LAA? (I have 64 bit Windows, and 8GB, so it makes a difference to me.)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Can the outfit links be moved to the #RLV folder?

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  20. Leia the clothing change was explained in the change log for the release ^^; It's running off the last clothes you wore on Viewer 2.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Once downloaded and installed, viewer did not want to load, I kept getting an error message referring me to: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Client_parameters.

  30. I got this same error when I first logged on....

    "Error: unknown option settings_phoenix.xml-setsystemlanguageen-us"

I was using an old shortcut. When i created a new shortcut, it worked fine.

So far, a great viewer - has all the stuff I liked in Imprudence except one thing - the ability to select if I can receive notices or group chat or one but not the other, plus a show or don't show check box much as in the friends list.

Great viewer - love Windlight and have it set on my sim.

    Fantastic!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Love love love it - you guys rawk!!!! Thank you for your hard work :o)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Problem solved - just took uninstalling the previous version and reinstalling the new one. Loving it! :D

    ReplyDelete
  33. The only errors I got were from inventory and HUD items appearing in duplicate for the first rez. All the things we love about the viewer were there and the settings from the older model were saved. Job well done :-)

  36. Congratulations to the Phoenix teams for producing this 1.5.2.725 release in such a short time !!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I can't get my inventory to load at all. I have cleared cache (all of them) I have restarted countless times, I have crashed even more. I am so very frustrated right now, I just want to be able to play. Oh right, I logged in not in my usual state. I have half the old n00b orange skin on, and with no inventory access I can't fix it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. If you are having any kind of problem or trouble .. we have a support team waiting to help you. You can find our support groups and support team members on the Support link of our website. All issues can be resolved by our support team.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Phoenix Team should think about hosting source and binary files somewhere else... like on google service. Right now its extremly slow. And its not only me.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Is the non-SSE2 option in the installer actually working? I get the "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000001d)" when trying to run this version.

    ReplyDelete
  41. actually my bad. I'm sorry..there are files hosted there. dont get it why so slow :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm hoping that with the final release of phoenix or firestorm, we'll be able to do multiple attachments for the clothing and tattoo layers too just like with SL viewer 2.0. =)

I still love the RC. Great work. Can't wait to seem what you roll out with firestorm.

  43. Recent Linden grid server updates have introduced the an inventory loading bug that affects all viewers. It appears as stalled inventory loading and prevents adding or removing while this condition persists. See the LL Jira VWR-24054 for details. (My bug report moderator likes to trash my bug reports, so there is no help there.) If you are having inventory load problems, I suggest that you try using other viewers before concluding that this is a Phoenix problem.

  45. Two questions not covered in the docs for the release... viewers that don't support the new attachment point system will only show one of the attachments... but which one? The last one? The first one?

Second question is about inventory links.. can outfits found in the "My Outfits" folder be moved and filed elsewhere? I assume yes...

    ReplyDelete
  46. So far so good. No probs whatsoever, and textures seem to be loading MUCH faster. Specs: Vista Home 64bit SP2, Intel core2 quad 2.33 ghz, 4 Gb Ram, Nvidia Geforce GTS 250. Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  47. "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

Can't get beyond trying to start it up, this happened before, and repeating things like clearing cache/deleting all traces of Phoenix and Emerald are simply not doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Huh? Inventory links? You mean I don't have to start V2, change outfit and return to Phoenix anymore?! Yay!!! It's my dream come true! Thank you Phoenix staff!
    xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sorry, this is the worst RC I've installed so far. Crashed several times yesterday (even set on Mid graphics), it's slow and I'm going back to the 373 asap. *pouts*

  55. Pls, sorry for my stupidity, but i cannot even install the new release properly, a message saying that the files coldn´t be loaded appears.I try ro install it anyway, as offered, but, after, i cannot even login. The worst: everything was fine before upgrading...Now, nor the older version works: i have the same problem during the install...

  56. @Susy re 'which appears'

..the v2 multi-attachment others see is the first in the list. When rendering Phoenix would go to the first and not be aware of how to proceed down the list. I did some experiments a while back... whichever object is most recently attached is the one seen. I guess Add puts things at the head of the list.

    des/demona

    ReplyDelete
  57. Speaking of the multi-attach feature..

For multi-wear I did additional experiments. If your viewer, such as Phoenix, is aware of alpha mask layers and tattoo layers and/or is able to perform multi-wear operations (e.g. viewer 2.x), then people using even LL viewer 1.23.5 (and other viewers not aware of alpha, tatto, multiwear) will see you as you see you.

This is because it is your own viewer that synthesizes a series (levels of detail) of unified body maps for your avatar. It then sends this map to the server, which in turn sends it to all the other agents who can see you. The server may even have to send it to you before you see yourself change. This would explain why seeing your own rebake takes so long on heavily loaded servers.

Therefore, regardless of who is using which viewer, if you can wear items, others will see them.

As mentioned above, this is not the case for multi-attach.

  58. Footnote to the phoenix team: Per the primary topics in the comments....

The 725 installer will not run on my system. I wonder if the installer itself requires an SSE2 compliant machine instruction set.

    ---------------
Footnote to everyone: This is an RC viewer. The P-team may have been a little overly optimistic.. please do cut them some slack.

If you are having problems.. revert to the non-SSE2 373, which is located here:

    http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=downloads

    des/demona

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh, the installer itself works fine (for me at least,) but what I meant with my earlier non-SSE2 comment is that the options you get to pick during the installation might not work as expected. After installation, when trying to run the viewer, the error happens whether you chose SSE2 or not.

To me it would seem like some of the non-SSE2 files are accidentally compiled with wrong flags or something.

  60. You need to get rid of 'Resident' after the names of people using the new system. No one wants to see 'Resident', It's very embarassing when people call me Mr Resident

    ReplyDelete
  61. I hope the attachment points are doubled (60) in the future.
No limit at 30 attached. (Layers and attachments)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Although I'm sure that you thought the new viewer would be bullet-proof I think it still may require a little tweaking on your part. I believe after reading all of the comments here that I will wait till it's been looked over again and then tested, but hey all the comments do help you get it better - Right!
PS: LL put up blog stating that they were going to hold up taking v1.23 off

    ReplyDelete
  63. Okay dokey guys. I've run into a few problems whilst using the viewer. It's is substantially laggy, so much though that even standing still and camming around, is actually incredibly hard to do. I am not sure if the following is due to the lag, but, I have also experience frequent crashes, media and music consistently drops out and my clothing always re sets whenever I log out and in again, meaning I have to re adjust any prim clothing I may have re-sized when I first put it on.

  64. Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit
No audio, got a mediaplugin_webkit error.
No voice, devices never initialize and local chat is spammed with "Connecting..." messages.

A workaround is to copy those files from the 1.5.1.373 installation. Works a treat for me.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Hi I habe the problem that the new viewer keeps using more and more memory, starting with 641MB
and after a while it expands up to 1.3 Gig mem usage after that it crashes, seems fix is needed for this

    ReplyDelete
  66. I really appreciate the efforts of the Phoenix team in the current version. Especially the switch from the old Phoenix multiple attach system to the current viewer-2-compatible system is great!

What's not so funny is the fact that on XP systems you need the “AppFix” together with a service pack update (because the “AppFix”-installer tells that). The new viewer also downloads some voice-chat component from the internet. The previous version Phoenix (v 1.5.1.373) did not need such nonsense: install, run, great! I doubt the improvements – even the underlaying not visible to the user ones - of the current version are such important that it legitimates such a complicated install procedure.

Yes, I know, you may say: “Buy a new system and you won't have such problems.” Yes, you are right. But it also shows that the new version of the Phoenix viewer heavily relays on software technologies that might become no longer supported by Microsoft (it would not have been the first time that Microsoft drops a software technology from one day to an other). Even a server switch or reorganization of the Phoenix crew might prevent a future install (because the download of the voice chat component does not work due to a broken link).

So, yes, I LOVE the Phoenix viewer. But I HATE the direction in which the software development of the Phoenix viewer is going to be.

  67. Hi, earlier today i noticed prims on my shoes and hair had vanished, i tp home to find half my skybox missing. i relogged, cleared cache, rebooted pc, reset router, reinstalled, reverted back to previous phoenix version...nothing worked, i was told this is server side and nothing i can do, so ive had to go back to viewer 2, im not having this missing prim issue in here fortunately, but i hate this viewer :(

  69. Pamela, first of all it's 38 not 30. Second of all I hope they DON'T double it, no more hax attachments please, we just got rid of the last ones! Plus it'd cause more lag....

How many attachments do you really need, do you really need more than 38? I'm a furry and I only have 22 most of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hi W, there are 30 attachment points plus 8 for Hud's. Consider evening dresses and shoes need for many attachment points plus makeup and nails ... Smiles ... and when you are wearing layers ... even at 30!!
    (Attachment points and layers)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Experiencing a bug with using Windows Stereo Mix as an input device for voice. My device is working, but the new viewer doesn't recognize any sound coming through. Hopefully this will be addressed in the next update!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Stefan, I had the same issue. You need to:
    1. ctrl-shift-o to open your ao window.
    2. drag and drop the config nc from your #phoenix folder onto it where it says
    3. click the "refresh" button on your ao window.

I came here to whinge about the same thing but worked it out while I was doing so. :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. I was excited aboud this new release ( still if it's a RC) but after a week of use..i have to get back to the old version....
    Freeze,freeze & freeze again ....

    ReplyDelete
  74. I find it very interesting that Phoenix 373, which was quite reliable, suddenly became flakey when you added support for inventory links and asset server copies of worn items.

It lends credence to my suspicion that there are server side protocol usage flaws that induce race conditions in the viewer, which in turn have their references corrupted when there is an unexpected race outcome.

That is.. there is a server side screw up that will being down any viewer using these new features.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Why can't I update it without errors? When it is installing it tells me I have duplicate files. Then it won't run. Last update I did I had to completely delete the Pheonix and then download it. Has anyone had this problem?

    ReplyDelete
  76. I am having a major issue with uploading textures. When I try to upload one, for the past 4 days, it crashes me everytime. My sister on the game is having the exact same problem.

    ReplyDelete
  77. The only problem i seem to be having is getting logged out at night..i don't have an AKF active and i'm not loosing connection. When i stay on all night i wake up and find my viewer has closed out. Other then that i've had no problems

    ReplyDelete
  78. Got a new single name account (Dulcimer) & no obvious way to log in with Phoenix.

Time to find a new browser.

    ReplyDelete
  79. OR you could just use "Resident" as your last name..

    ReplyDelete
  80. Shame that Mac OS X version 10.5 is now "required" for Phoenix. Some of us have good reasons to remain on 10.4; i.e. business critical apps that don't work on 10,5 or later. If 10.5 is a hard requirement as opposed to the binary just being created on/for 10.5 then soon I'm going to be locked out of Second Life. :-( Linden Lab's viewer 2.3 is supposed to run on 10.4 but it doesn't. I can't upgrade to 10.5 or 10.6 at the moment. Maybe when Lion is released next year(?) I will have to upgrade until then I'm stuck on 10.4.

I'd like to ask that this 10.5 or later decision be re-examined. And from the comments I'm not the only one.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I hate this new version, love the new stuff but it's slower then it ever was. Each time i'm rezzing my fps drops below 1! and randomly it likes to do the same and i have to minimize and maximize again for it to go back to normal.

    ReplyDelete
  82. why there is no 64bit version for linux avalible? (i got from techwolf overlay for gentoo). btw there is fmod for 64bit linux 4.2

    ReplyDelete
  83. @Oskuld

I guess it's a good thing no one does real work on OS X then, huh? ; )

    ReplyDelete
  84. I think this is a step backwards, especially because the multiple attachment points are no longer supported. Can anyone explain why?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Because you don't ned them. You simply choose 'Add" from the menu when you go to wear, instead of wear, and it adds it to what is already there. And because no matter what viewer someone uses they see it correctly, this is a much better option.

    ReplyDelete
  86. What is going on with the phoenix viewer? everytime i try to open it i get this message ( " the application has failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see event log for more details " ) event log stats this ( " Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\Phoenix Viewer\PhoenixViewer.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "" on line . A component version required by the application conflicts with another component version already active. Conflicting components are:. Component 1: C:\Program Files\Phoenix Viewer\Microsoft.VC80.CRT.MANIFEST. Component 2: C:\Program Files\Phoenix Viewer\Microsoft.VC80.CRT.MANIFEST. " ) help me out man i hate all other viewers how can i fix this

    ReplyDelete
  87. The reason I don't upgrade my Phoenix Viewer is because when I do I get run errors also. For the last two updates I have had to dig into my hard drive and delete anything that has to do with the old phoenix viewer, and then I even had to empty the trash. Then I can download the new version. It just does not seem to want to update the old one. This is definitely a problem for me. I would like the features of this newest one but do I want to dig into the hard drive and find all the files and delete them. And uninstall does not delete these files. You have to hunt for them.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Theta, I found that in order to ADD things in my viewer version of Phoenix that you have to bring up the folder in order to get that option. If you right click on the folder it gives the ADD option. I'm not sure if the newer version is different. Right clicking on an individual item did not give me that option.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I cant get Phoenix to open. I have inistalled the new version and the fix. I log in and half way through it closes. PLEASE HELP
