As many of you have heard, V1 viewers including Phoenix will soon become broken and mostly unusable on the SL grid as LL begins to turn off server side functionality these viewers require. Fortunately there is Firestorm, our V2 based Viewer designed to be more user friendly for V1 users. Even more fortunate is that you currently have two choices, you can still use Phoenix for important things but we highly encourage you to try to get used to Firestorm in your spare time. This way when V1 and Phoenix becomes broken you'll already have the knowledge and experience to switch to Firestorm full time without growing pains or interruptions in your daily SL activities. While Firestorm has been specifically designed to not interfere with any other viewers on your computer, older Firestorm installations may interfere with new Firestorm releases. If you have already installed a previous Firestorm version we highly urge you to do a clean install for each Firestorm Release Instructions here.
A few weeks ago we released our first public beta of the Firestorm viewer, it was widely received with great delight by a huge number of users. Those who did have problems adopting it however, quickly discovered that following our Migration guide on the wiki and our Tutorial Videos helped resolve most all of their interface orientation issues. However there was one major feature missing from Firestorm Public Beta that was a blocker for a great many users, that feature was the beloved in-world content creation tools for builders, most commonly known as "Build Tools".
Announcing Firestorm Beta 2, WITH Phoenix Build tools! You now have build options like object face numbers, link numbers, additional decimals for accurate positioning, copy/paste options for object parameters, additional object types, even the ability to resize the build floater and much more! We've also added many other highly requested features like Quick Prefs option in the bottom bar, V1 style Group Profiles, Starlight Skin Updates/improvements, Griefer protection from animation permission grabbers, seller protection from within the build floater, UI improvements in world map, seconds in chat history just to name a few. But not just features! we've also fixed a huge number of bugs and made improvements to things like Bridge creation, Pie menu, user interface, crash fixes etc. Change Log can be found here.
Please feel free to attend our Firestorm classes which began last week and will continue on a regular basis. You can see our class schedule here . Also remember we offer 24/7 support for both Phoenix and Firestorm viewers in our support groups listed on our Support page. Beyond that you'll find answers to virtually all your questions about "Where is..", "How do I.." on our Firestorm Wiki. Or if you're in the Firestorm viewer, you can quickly get to our wiki by pressing F1 or from the help menu.
We are very excited about the release of this Public Beta 2 and hope you will enjoy it to it's fullest.
Sincerely,
The Phoenix Viewer Project Team

ReplyDeletehmm build tools, nice, but still no Growl, I use Growl on my home notebook quite a bit, and it's the reason I switched to Phoenix in the first place, but, still so far so good.
ReplyDeleteAs a designer.. i like the new build options, and i'm looking forward to it, i am not using the current firestorm because i have major lag and freezings on it, so i hope that it fixed with the new update.
ReplyDeleteI am chugging the Firestorm Kool Aid! You're doing a great job of taming some of the sillier aspects of the SLV2 viewer. Very pleased.
ReplyDeleteWhen's the final Firstorm release coming out???????
ReplyDeleteI don't trust Beta Versions. Last time I downloaded (and uninstalled) a Beta SL Viewer it deleted all of my chat logs. So I prefer to just wait for the final... or official release.... So when will that be? *Smiles* I'm anxious.
Voice is still bad u need to get a reset button like on phoenix i still cant get my USB mic to work without a glitch then i have to restart and then it will go out again but then again it look good for the most part i am still have loads of trouble with the mic though.....
ReplyDeleteSeems much smoother running on both of my machines (one a desktop Core 2 Quad, and one a laptop AMD Turion X2 64). The build tools are wonderful, but I am still waiting to see if there is some way to revert to the classic notice behavior - they still seem too easy to miss (I'm used to looking to the top right for notices)
ReplyDeleteAny idea when the LSL preprocessor and includes will make it back into Firestorm?
ReplyDeleteAwesome Beta #2 release. Love the new build option and the horizontal tabs in conversations. The unchecked "Add timestamp to each line in chat log" still fails but that's minor and hopefully next Beta that will be working. Thanks and keep up the great work !! WOOT!!
ReplyDeleteWarning don't read this if you hate reading stuff that isn't a lie or is blunt and truthful about bad sh%^. if you don't like what i have to say, too bad, freedom of speech, if you wanted a happy ending, go watch a rated g movie, this is real life, it hardly ever happy.
ReplyDeleteyeah, this new firestorm sucks a$$, can't get rid of the sidebar, can't double click to wear, can't temp import and it still a v2 so it impossible to build anything with it. only nice added feature is the option to stop the "press enter to type" crap, this is not WoW, sl doesn't have million of commands bound to every key on the keyboard. i only using phoenix cause it has temp importing, isn't the sh$% storm that is v2, and doesn't screw with your avi when it feels like it, much like all v2 base viewer do all the time.
@Mikomi
ReplyDeleteNice attempt at a troll. Pretty much everything you say can't be done can be easily.
In any case, Beta 2 has some very nice additional features and it looks like a few bugs have been squashed as well. It keeps getting better and better. I officially deleted Phoenix off my system at this point.
You guys are beyond amazing. I am humbled and grateful for all your hard work and generosity. Great product, great support. Generous user-centric vision. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteSome really good additions in this release. Though, my one issue with V2 is the lack of chat/IM history when in mouselook. Until (if it can be) that is in there, i'll be sticking with V1 based viewer as long as i can.
ReplyDeleteAs i said first though, great update :)
''V1 viewers including Phoenix will soon become broken and mostly unusable on the SL grid as LL begins to turn off server side functionality these viewers require.''
ReplyDeleteAcctually I did NOT know this as the reason why they are killed off older v1.23 viewers. I thought LL were just being thier usual selves.
now it sounds like that they are doing this to save money, and making the viewers do more work to make up for the lack of server-side functionality. Or just killing them all together.
what i wanna know is WHAT functionality will make V1 based viewers useless?
And will there still be support for Phoenix on other grids based on OSgrid, once LL drops v1 viewers?
The viewer crashes when I want to enter build mode, don't ask me why.
ReplyDeleteSame problem here as han-xiao
ReplyDeleteThe latest version is totally useless
ReplyDeleteI downloaded the latest version today. It runs OK initially, but it quickly consumes all available physical memory on my computer (Windows 7 Home Pro with 4GB main memory), and then gives me like one frame every 10-30 seconds, making walking and flying quite a challenge. There is a change here, as the previous version took about one hour to go to 3.7GB consumed main memory. Great functionality - the 4-5 minutes it lasts. I'm back to old Phoenix for now.
I'd love to see the option to have pie menus or the drop down menus. That's my only suggestion. I'm loving Firestorm!
ReplyDeleteFirestorm Beta 2 runs much better than Beta 1 on my laptop (with a poor AMD Radeon HD 4330 graphics card)! No crashes like before, better fps, better stability, any time, everywhere, either i play it on Win 7 either on Linux! Congratz Phoenix Team, i hope the final release will be as good and even more more better!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@kat, You can have either or there is Prefs-> UI Effects.. There is a tick box for Pie Menu..
ReplyDeleteWhere has LL said they will be breaking viewer 1?
ReplyDelete@Tapple - viewer1 wont be able to see mesh when that hits the grid v1 will be virtually broken any mesh will look like odd shapes nothing cohesive.. Also theyve said they will be turning off viewer 1 features slowly.. Heard search might be the first... Also ive seen in some the latest LL v2's they have HTTP Get Inventory.. This might be something as well that will be eventually broken
ReplyDeleteReally nice, a fes moments and it is almost Phoenix in looks. I have to admit you have done a great job on this. Really like it a lot. So far everything works well. Can't wait to see what the finished product looks like and preforms.
ReplyDeleteSpElLChEcK ~ yes that was intentional lol, when will spell check be installed into Firestorm?
ReplyDeleteWould be nice if:
ReplyDeleteA: It didn't use 100% CPU constantly (running on an AMD Athlon II X2/250 3GHz 64bit dual core)
B: It kept the UI of V1/Phoenix (tried the V2 viewer and didn't care for it)(maybe a skin of this can be made)
Getting better! Thanks for the quick preferences button on the bar -- and THANK YOU for adding in 'Edit Clothes' onto the pie menu. The previous way of having to first go into into 'Edit Shape' and then having to "back into" the clothes editing panels from there wasn't very intuitive. (I will always miss v1's original Edit Appearance, though.)
ReplyDeletePersistent derender soon, pretty please? :) It's such a quality-of-life necessity when one is stuck on the mainland. Thanks again for all the hard work in making V2 a tolerable option.
To fix the problems with the viewer crashing when you open the build window; just delete everything, i mean everything. all the firestorm folders from [username]/appdata/roaming and appdata/virtual store
ReplyDeleteI had the CPU maxing out issue. Turned out there's an issue with Nvidia graphics cards...
ReplyDeleteIn the Nvidia control panel (under Manage 3D settings) I set the Threaded Optimization to Off for Firestorm. Fixed it right up.
@indie: Not working :'( oh man... the first one was working fine! this one can't edit... I crash immediately
ReplyDeleteDid you uninstall and reinstall? Pretty much cleared the issue up for me removing every trace of Firestorm from my PC
ReplyDeleteHello:
ReplyDeleteI like this version of Phoenix but there are a number of features I do not like such as:
- HUDs menu appears in a box with a blue background and in the top right of the screen
- The music each time that you change region have to play the musical note so that the music begins to sound
- The group messages appear in a very long box and a very small font size
There is any chance to fix this, and that the viewer would be more in the style of the Second Life Viewer?, that is to say that the HUDs menu does not have background blue, but black and music do not have to press the musical note every time that you change region
Best regards
beta 2 is an improvement over beta (finally functional on my laptop) with ubuntu 11.04, there seems to be one small issue though. the only way for me to start it up is to run it in terminal, opposed to being able to run it as a program (nothing happens)
ReplyDelete@therainman I am not quite sure why that would be I am using ubuntu natty (11.04) as well and don't have this problem, biggest problem I have with it is it doesn't play nice with unity and I have to click the title bar when it loads to make it go to fullscreen but with the titlebar not in the main unity window title area.
ReplyDeleteI suggest a short term fix change your launcher for firestorm and set it to run in a terminal, does that make it work for you? It means you will still have a terminal window open the entire time Firestorm is running but you wont have to open it and type the command manually, minimise the headache for you until a more perfect solution can be found.

ReplyDelete@Risto Shim
ReplyDeleteYou can change the color of the script dialog box just got Preferences-> Colors-> Change Script Dialog BG to Black and Script Dialog FG to White.. Or Set it to any color you want!
For Sound.. Try ensuring in Preferences-> Sound & Media.. Allow Media to auto play when entering a region is checked.. Might be unchecked by default for security... You can also switch between the drop down menu and Pie.. And between v2 header chats or v1 older style chats

ReplyDelete@Jenni.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the help, but I still have the problem with the music every time I change of region, until that I not touch the musical note icon I don´t hear the sound
Everything else I have been able to change it, but I find it strange that a box appears in the top right of the screen, I'm accustomed to using the official Second Life Viewer
Best regards
@Jenni.
ReplyDeleteI just solve the problem of the sripts, they no longer appear in a box in the upper right corner, they now appear in the bottom right.
To fix this I went to PREFERENCES > UI Extras > Script Dialog Placement and uncheck option Script Dialogs in Top Right, now appears as I wanted to.
Best regards
The new version is great, once I got it installed correctly... However, I learned about the upgrade when starting up the old one. When I clicked on the new version number it brought me to the download page only, which is a little bit of a problem as I didn't have the option to read the release notes, only to download the new version.
ReplyDeleteSo I missed "**IMPORTANT!!** Uninstall previous Firestorm installations and make sure you install to a CLEAN EMPTY FOLDER! Do not overwrite an existing installation."
Please, have all links for upgrades take you to the web posting about the new version so I can read all the materials. Also, the wiki pages for Firestorm support don't have the links to the latest release notes, so again I didn't get the information I needed to have a trouble free installation.
Hi, do you know that avatar physics work very weird on FireStorm?..
ReplyDeleteI love this version of Firestorm but could we please have a drop down box on the sign on screen !
ReplyDeleteTyping alts names and passwords and invariably making a typo is a pain.
Was a drop down on Phoenix so please can we have one on Firestorm ?
When I right click a Teleporter I do not get the option to "Teleport" either in the Pie Menu or the drop down menu if that option is enabled.
ReplyDeleteAwww you removed the Sky button? where is it now, that was the first thing I clicked on when logging in. Everything else works fine, except voice calls, but I'm still messing with it
ReplyDeletehi: I been using firestorm and there are some problems like when I sit on an animation ball, I do not get the message to animate my avitar and I just look stupid and sit there in the sky on the ball as though I am sitting on an non animated surfice. also I really, really nead spell checker thank you
ReplyDeleteNice work on the new viewer. Only complaint that I have is that there isn't a radar that the first viewer had. Please put it in this viewer, it was very handy.
ReplyDeletei second Альбина: yes, physics behaves absolutely weird. even when using the smoothest settings there's huge movement especially in the upper body parts. such a pity.
ReplyDeleteEach time I try to edit an object attached to my avatar I crash. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI can't seem to find the function to turn of chatsounds, any way to fix this? Am I missing it or is it just not there any more?
ReplyDeleteThe rest is good so far :) Thanks again guys n' girls
So I won't be able to use second life anymore since the old viewers are being phased out? And no one seems to be compiling v2 based viewers for older sse computers.
ReplyDeleteCmon firestorm team! Give us a viwer for sse computers too!
I will happily switch to using firestorm full time once it has spell check, Right click to C&P, Music is on the bottom bar and the notices are switched to the upper right. The current notice system drives me nuts.
ReplyDeleteI would be totally ok with the music and notice problems to be something I have to switch to myself so that those coming from v2 can have them where they are used to them.

ReplyDeletedebug options don't seem to stick, I switch pitchFromMousePosition and yawFromMousePosition to 0 to keep my head from moving, then when I restart they are back to 90
ReplyDeleteHm .. 2.5.2.16922 allways crashes if I try to edit something, even if I try to move an hud atachment.
ReplyDeletePulldown-menu for several ALTs does'nt seem to exist.
Favourites does'nt appear in the login-page.
The contrasts in the subsilver-color-scheme are awfull.
I miss my radar-button!
I miss my indivdidual IM-auto-messages!
Lotta work to do! ;-)
I've been using Firestorm for the last couple of days, and i really like it so far. The only problem
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that my clothes are blurry, and never completly rez.
When do we get shininess... honestly it cannot be THAT hard to add as it's allready in the viewer 2 code???
ReplyDeletefirestorm is great! you guys have done a great job making V2 not... V2! but every time i log on - it seems to disconnect everything i have open (like skype and webpages stop loading) also, i cant see particles, like my wave splashes... cant find how to fix it. it all works great on phoenix! and theres nothing to disable or reset inworld voice chatting? but above everything else... i like it a lot! keep it up! [:
ReplyDeleteLove Firestorm but the new beta has been extremely unstable for me.
ReplyDeleteSince installing it the screen will flicker and then I crash.
Sounds like LL has not heard the saying if its not broke don't fix it.I grow closer and closer to telling LL good by and taking My $ else where. Seem's every time there is an excellent viewer out that work's and work well, they have the need to get rid of it. I use phoenix it is a nice viewer and work's very very well. I see no reason to have to learn a new viewer that does not support all the features that some people in the BDSM lifestyle require such as the RLV feature. I have tried V2 and firestorm. Both of them are clustered all to heck. When cant even figure out how to turn on your map right's for your partner it's to complicated. Emerald, yes I said it, EMERALD was a clean and well working viewer, LL decided to junk it and out came Phoenix an almost exact copy of emerald, and now that's on the chopping block. Unless I see firestorm becoming simpler and easier to ues and more efficant, Im thinking hard bout taking My $ else where. In My opinon LL needs to get thier finger's out of every one's a** and leave sh*t the f*ck alone. But this is all My opinon and Im just one voice but I hope other's in the BDSM community speak up about this along with people that love simplicity, effcenticy. Thank you for reading this.

ReplyDeleteI am not sure where many of us 'heard' that V1 will no longer be supported. Where is a link showing this...? Or is this hearsay? It ain't truth til it's documented.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteMy impression: All the ranting is misleading because the contributors disregard that Firestorm is still under development and many features from Phoenix are still missing but will be implemented if the V2-codebase allows for it. This is _known_, so why bring it up again?
ReplyDeleteWhat with the criticism on the appearance of Firestorm: it's already highly customizable as far as I can see, so that's fine by me cause I have set things so that it works like Phoenix for me.
But there is one thing that's keeping me from using the Firestorm beta on a regular basis: the screen font. I find it impossibly hard to read (and I'm not the only one), and changing that should have a top priority. NogarDrevlis Lectar came up with some very nice suggestions here, already on April 13: http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-881
I'm really wondering why nothing has been done about it yet. This problem _must_ be solved! No way out of it. As this is absolutely crucial for me, I will in the end choose the V2-based viewer with the best legibility. I very much hope it will be Firestorm. But I would abandon certain features for good legibility. The viewer shouldn't be underrated as a means of communication.
Is there another release coming soon with more features being added?
ReplyDeleteLove the new version! Now has the quick graphics commands too! Seems to be working all fine for me except I can't seem to edit/inspect some things worn by others. Overall great job, finally a v2 I can actually use :)
ReplyDeleteI've been a Emerald and then Phoenix fan, I've never really liked v1 or v2, but given that they are planning to dumping the ones I like, I've tried Firestorm.
ReplyDeleteIMO, its great. I haven't phased any of the crashing problems that so many people complain about, I don't build so I can't contribute on that one either. What I do have problem with is how name tags crowd up the screen.
I'm a DJ (yeah yeah I know, half of the residents in SL are DJ's....bite me lol) and so when I have a full house..anything more than 10 people infact, all I can see then are the name tag, the avatars can't be seen. It is highly frustrating.
If there is a fix for that and anyone knows the fix, I'd love to know about it.... my name in SL is Rosalique Resident.
The other thing I had a problem with was, everytime i logged in using Firestorm, there seemed to be something like a boulder on my waist. I have to detach it...it goes away, but its not meant to be there. And no its not one of my prim outfits looking weird, its something extra that comes on.
Other than the 2 problems mentioned above, I'm loving Firestorm. The colors are more vivid and SL is just a pleasure on it. Great work you guys :D

ReplyDeleteLove what you are doing with Firestorm Beta, but it consistently crashes/goes to black screen whenever I have multiple viewers open and try to play an audio stream. I admit that my powerful quad core system (with a newly installed and powerful Radeon video card) badly needs a RAM upgrade, but this never happens when I have two SL V2 viewers open at the same time.
ReplyDelete@DJ Rosa, the "boulder" is the LSL Bridge. I had the same issue when I first set it up. The advice I got from the support group was to detach it, then delete it from Inventory, then fo into Avatar-> Avatar Health-> Recreate LSL Bridge. It fixed it right up on mine, no more boulder!
ReplyDelete@the Firestorm team, thanks for the improvements, it's getting there guys. Having issues with lag way more than I did in the last version, but I'm sure that you'll get it all ironed out. Thanks for a great feature set.
@ DJ Rosa
ReplyDeleteThe problem of not seeing avatars when there are more than ten avatars in the region believe that it is a common problem of many viewers, I also use another Viewer called Kirstens besides Firestorm and also I have the same problem, I see the names but I don´t see the avatars.
The only thing than can do is to increase the value Max. Avatar count for example to 50, but increasing this value can adversely affect having more lag
I also believe that this problem is the code base of Second Life Development viewer through which creates Phoenix Firestorm and other third-party viewers
Best regards
the Firestorm viewer is pure shit. it's just like that crappy viewer 2. things like chains on bondage furniture and collars, steam and bubbles in bathtubs, water flow, sparkle/bling on jewelry, none of these things work on the firestorm viewer. and here you all claim it to be the same as the phoenix viewer. and that's a COMPLETE lie. they're nothing alike. phoenix is the BEST viewer that anyone could want to use on secondlife, though you guys are taking it away. you won't believe how many people are going to leave secondlife if this happens. secondlife is supposed to be enjoyable, and easy to operate. yet you all with your "bright ideas" are taking the best viewer away. and that's just fucking idiotic of you to do. the phoenix viewer needs to stay. seriously.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteOk as far as im concerned this viewer is no where near complete. As for features its still lacking some of the most important stuff like radar rlv and such. The radar was the main reason most people got emerald, phoenix and firestorm. Infact them 2 reasons are the only reason i use a third party viewer. The best viewer in my book is and always has been v1.23 The v2 layout is utter rubbish and so i suggest a skin be made to simulate the layout of v1. I no this was suggested before so please take note. Dont just offer stupid colour choices but the layout as a whole. I know making things like v1 profiles wont work properly as its gonna soon be web based but still, inventory, bottom bar, chats, everything. If you want to keep people with your viewer at least provide an option for this layout or myself and many others will be walking away.
ReplyDeleteI agree with David and would also like to see OTR in the Viewer as I don't like the Idea of my Private IMs being looked at by anyone but myself and the person I am chatting to. OTR is a very important Security Option in all the viewers and should be kept
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Jin S
ReplyDeleteThe OTR encryption I think that it cannot be used in the Phoenix viewer, because otherwise it would be included in the options of Firestorm viewer
Although I don´t think can spy the IM's from other people, because if so all viewers used to access Second Life would include this option as standard and so this option is seen only in the Phoenix Viewer 1.
Best regards
Lindens can and have read IMs its a known fact they read them many people have been ban for what have been said in IMs. and yes it can be added to any of the viewers.
ReplyDeleteThere is a huge glitch with Firestorm Beta 1 and 2, with the Linden Labs water surrounding the sim. I lowered my land back when I was using the Phoenix Viewer, so that the land was level with the water surrounding the sim. But in the Firestorm Beta 1 and 2 Viewers, the water appears 2-3 meters higher than my parcel land. There is a giant gray wall between the water and the land, with blue water on the other side of the gray wall. My neighbor had edited his terrain to create a river, and the river water 2-3 meters lower than the water surrounding the sim too. It is a very strange glitch and I wish you would DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, because I already reported this glitch in the survey that I took for the Beta 1 version. Which just shows that you did NOT take the time to read the written portions of the survey responses. I'm not really in the mood to create a Jira account right now. But hopefully you notice this post and/or bug and do something about it before the next Firestorm version is released.
ReplyDeleteLike Firestorm at work where I have a T1 to compensate for the lack of a decent graphics card, but overall disappointed about two things: 1) I can't mute the UI sounds, which is usually the first thing I do, and 2) I cannot sort the names beside a chat window. Otherwise so far so good.
ReplyDeleteThe mac beta .dmg version fails to unpack - checksum error
ReplyDeleteis there an option to get text instead of icons in the toolbar below? these icons makes me mad lol...
ReplyDeletethanks for new version.. still a long way to go... hope 1.x keeps working...
is there a way choose to sort inventory by name/by date and things? like in the old viewers... really need this to do shows....
ReplyDeletethank you
Well, I sit here in disbelief at the layout of firestorm. It's the SAME as that god awful LL viewer2! Now I'm worried as I will not be able to use Firestorm for many reasons.
ReplyDeleteMain problem with firestorm is exactly he same as V2, where the heck you put everything? I cannot find several of my most used tools, cant find some land settings for the sim I own. Many things I cannot do in this viewer, like stay logged in for one. I crash in a few minutes.
After hearing SO many hate the layout of V2 I'm amazed this type of viewer was even considered by the people here. How it's so difficult to find where on earth certain things are in V2 when you are a builder and sim owner. It took me a long time to find how to restart my sim!
When I build, I try to click on an arrow to move a prim and the tip of my cursor is no where close to the arrow. I have to cam is painfully close in order to pick the controls on a prim while in edit mode.
I also breed meeroos and when I go to click on a treasure I have to click in a blank area AROUND the prim. Which can take several clicks, and again the need to cam right in on an item.
I find it almost impossiblke to write something in the local chat box without making huge spelling mistakes, because I cannot see more than 2 words in the box. I'm one of those sad souls who could never type without watching the keyboard, even then I constantly hit 2 keys and dont see it, so I make typing errors often.
The way the IM's are displayed and how I need to read or rely is a nightmare for my eyes. Such tiny icons. And I often miss group notices, or close the window by mistake.
I was trying to find where my classifieds are on my profile, and others for that fact. It's not clear where it is, is it? Wonders how many lost sales due to 'profile readers' not knowing it even exists on a profile.
It amazes me that the makers of Phoenix even contemplated using the same format as V2 when SO many hate that viewer.
I've been 'trying' to get used to firestorm, same as I tried to 'get used' to viewer2, and used it for a week solid determind to 'get used to it'. But I'm sorry, I really don't want to play the game and get a migraine within a short time because I'm really struggling to use the viewer.
Good on ya, those who can use this viewer, and those who like it. (Wonders if they actually DO create anything in SL other than slap a texture on a box. Because every single builder I know, without exception, hates the viewers.
Sorry, but I wont be using this viewer in future if this is what I am forced to change to.
I'll be sad to see Pheonix go...... Now...
Anyone know of a good viewer that is the same layout as phoenix, same place the tools have always been, longer local chat window, oh and the free temp uploading too? Or another good grid if we are going to be forced to use this firestorm? (AKA LL Viewer2).
Before I leave and before you say, Yes I've tried that, and that, and that, and that, in V2 and firestom. (Laughs as I remember being asked if I ever even tried the viewer in a group discussion one day!). I just didn't want to add ALL the dids and did nots to my post making it longer. Been in SL for 4 years now building, so I think I know what I know by now hu?
ReplyDeleteI think what I still miss is Area Search, great tool when a prim comes up missing!
ReplyDeleteA word of thanks for adding back the Show Outlines checkbox to the Build > Edit palette.

ReplyDeleteI like firestorm nice looking feel etc however getting issues with the build bit,eg;-taking exact copies of an object and even though it says it is dimension wise etc visually it sure as hell isnt and having to do way too much re-editing on stuff.Otherwise it runs well way better than LL's piss poor attempt at it.
ReplyDeleteMy impression: All the ranting is misleading because the contributors disregard that Firestorm is still under development and many features from Phoenix are still missing but will be implemented if the V2-codebase allows for it. This is _known_, so why bring it up again?

Make this post mine as well!
Hello, Im using Firestorm for the first time, the past few days. V2 is horrible but firestorm isn't so bad. I like a few things about it actually. What I would like to get rid of is all the landmarks displaying across the top of my screen. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Can anyone tell me how to remove the landmarks across the top of the screen in Firestorm?
ReplyDeletecant we at least have a chat bar to type in rather than havin to hunt that box down when i want to type?? I cant even begin to type when I want to without searchin that darn thing!! hahahaha
ReplyDeleteBtw, I'm really glad to know Marine Kelly is jnoining your team:)
ReplyDeleteAnd that Rod Humlbe granted that V1 viewers will not be banned:)
So any can keep using them as has mesh wil take really long to move on, hopefull the 1st firestorm release, will be fully used and enjoyable then.
Are there any plans to include the button that is currently bottom right on the phoenix viewer that includes Bandwidth, DD, Max avatars, particles, LOD and the windlight pre sets?
ReplyDeleteI find this extremely helpful, for one if im in a laggy sim i can drop my DD and max avatars quickly, without going into prefs, plus changing windlight pre sets is quicker than constantly habign to change them via environment settings.
That, along with radar and area search, is the main reason i prefer phoenix.

ReplyDeleteHello! This may have been answered already but as I cannot find it, I'm going to ask...I cannot seem to find ANY IM chat history while on Firestorm. As a designer/event & hunt planner, I use the IM history to remind myself of things I need to do or that I've committed to do. Can someone PLEASE help dummy me figure out what I'm doing wrong? lol
ReplyDeleteWebprims problems.
ReplyDeleteI am a multimedia experimentor and i noticed some different features as compared with lindens viewer:
1 The sound of a webprim doesn't lessen when you move away from it. This is default behavior in th linden viewer.
When you start up a webprim via firestorm it can be heard loud and clear from the other end of a sim.
This means that a firestorm user will be blasted by sound with many webprims on a sim.
2 the sound of a webprim can't be muted in firestorm like in lindens viewer. Well the sound doesn't fall of and can't be muted.
O.o
First (and foremost) let me start with a big THANK YOU for all the work you all are putting into Firestorm. In some ways, you are victims of your own success. Having put out such a great viewer once, people think that you can start there. Unfortunately, firestorm puts you back at square one (or at least, square 22 or so). Having to start with what LL gives you will be a handicap, but it can and will be overcome. If anyone can fix the interface, it will the the Phoenix/Firestorm team.
ReplyDeleteOh, and if I didn't say it before, THANK YOU.
The area search is sorely, sorely missed, especially when I lose a tiny, totally transparent prim. No, we will NOT ask how come. GRUMPF.
ReplyDeleteI hope it will be on the todo list.
Is there a way to anti idle with FireStorm?
ReplyDeleteOkay, hang on. Is this saying that Phoenix is not going to be usable? It sure seems like everyone is just sort of "doo dee doo"ing this...are we going to need to switch viewers?
ReplyDeleteHas anyone found Firestorm able to see beacons while in mouselook? The two beacons I am concerned with are "Physical Objects" and "Render Highlights." Please post your comments!
ReplyDeleteThe thing preventing me from switching is the lack of scripting tools..
ReplyDeleteI've been using this viewer for quite some time now. It took a while to get used to the layout, but once I did, it's SO much better. But now I'm somewhat upset - it's stopped working :( A recent UBUNTU update must have affected something, because now, I can't stay in SL for more than a minute before the entire viewer just dies. No crash notice, nothing - straight back to the desktop :( I hope a new version will be out soon, so I can see if it fixes the problem.
ReplyDeleteI still wish for an option to allow the user to change UI.. for someone, who'salways used phoenix since starting Second Life.. switching over to Firestorm really sucks.. I really hate it's layout.. and wish for an option to give the user the option to use a Phoenix like layout (i.e. menu appearance/button layout) or use the newer firestorm UI/Layout. Firestorm has always given me headaches over it's layout and I've been using it since early July. So three weeks later and it still is a headache giver.
ReplyDeleteThanks.

ReplyDeleteDid anyone test the latest Firestorm Viewer on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion by now?
ReplyDelete@ Irdane: Had Firestorm up on Lion several times. No problems that I noticed so far, albeit I didn't use it excessively. Phoenix is still my standard viewer.

Just wondering if I'm missing it or not. I have been trying in vein to find where we can save uploaded textures as png as we could on the old phoenix. As a builder I'm missing this option in a big way.
ReplyDeleteFirestorm problems I have found.
ReplyDelete1) You can only open the inventory once. This means that it is very difficult to organise a large inventory. The facility to open the inventory twice and move stuff from one window to the other is essential.
2) I minimised a search, now I find that I can't either recover the minimised search or do any other search. I am locked out of search.
Does anyone know if Firestone allows you to layer your tattoos like Viewer 2 does? I'm currently using Phoenix but it does not allow me to layer and that sucks.
